Answers to the questions Google groups under People Also Ask for edge banding machines.
An edge banding machine (edgebander) glues decorative tape — PVC, ABS, melamine or wood veneer — onto the raw edge of a wood-based panel, then trims, scrapes and buffs it. Automatic machines run those stations in one pass.
Yes. A full automatic edge banding machine feeds the panel, applies glue, presses the tape, end-cuts, trims, scrapes and buffs without a handheld iron. Compact models such as YM-365 automate this for small shops; longer machines add pre-milling, corner rounding, PUR pots or boring.
The best machine is the one whose stations match the job. Small shops usually start with a compact automatic (YM-365). Panel furniture plants look at YM-368 or YM-468 with pre-milling and corner trim. Kitchen plants that need waterproof joints specify PUR / dual glue pots. Handle-less doors need a 45° bevel machine. European brands (Homag, SCM, Holz-Her) cost more; Chinese industrial builders such as YongMao sell the same station list at factory-direct prices.
Price depends on stations (pre-mill, corner trim, PUR, boring, bevel), motors and shipping terms. We do not publish a fake list price. Send panel size, tape type and output and we return a factory quotation. See the buying guide for what actually moves cost.
Laser / airtronic “zero glue line” systems sit at the top of the market and are typically specified on European high-end lines. YongMao’s current catalogue focuses on EVA and PUR glue-pot / glue-nozzle industrial machines. If you need a laser comparison for budgeting, ask — we will say clearly what we build versus what to source elsewhere.
Handheld iron-on tape is easy for DIY. Industrial automatic banding is easy to run after setup: operators load panels and watch glue temperature, tape tracking and trim knives. First-article setup (glue type, pressure, mill depth) still needs a trained tech.
Edgebanding covers the exposed core of plywood, MDF or particle board so the edge matches the face. The machine melts EVA or PUR adhesive, presses tape onto the edge, cuts the ends, trims top and bottom, optionally rounds corners, then scrapes and buffs.
By process: manual/iron-on, semi-automatic, and full automatic. By adhesive: EVA, PUR, and laser/air (no conventional glue pot). By profile: straight, 45° bevel / J-pull, and softform. Most furniture plants buy a full automatic straight-line EVA or PUR machine.
Solid-wood lipping, T-molding, paint finishing, or PVC extrusion caps. For flat-pack furniture, edge banding remains the standard because it is fast, thin and matches the laminate face.
Solid-wood strips used as banding are commonly 0.5–3 mm in automatic machines (our published tape window is 0.4–3 mm). Thicker solid-wood lips are usually applied as a separate lipping process, not through a standard thin-tape edgebander. Confirm with your door drawing — do not assume one number for every species.
For plywood, wood-veneer tape matches the face grain; PVC/ABS is more impact-resistant for kitchen boxes. Paintable PVC or veneer is used when the plywood will be painted. A pre-mill station helps when plywood edges are chipped from the saw.
