European vs Chinese Edgebanders (Homag / SCM vs YongMao / Nanxing)

2026-03-03

Homag, SCM and Holz-Her sell globally recognised platforms, deep dealer networks and, on the top lines, glue-nozzle or laser options. Chinese industrial builders such as YongMao and Nanxing sell the same station list most furniture plants actually run — glue, trim, scrape, buff, plus pre-mill, corner rounding, PUR pots or bevel — at factory-direct capital cost. “Best” is the machine you can staff, spare and pay for, not the logo on the beam.

What is actually different

European premium lines often lead on software, glue application systems (see glue pot vs nozzle) and residual value in some markets. Chinese factories compete on steel, station completeness and the ability to ship a CE machine without a Western list price.

YongMao (Renqiu, Hebei, since 1994) publishes ISO9001 / CE production and automatic models from a compact YM-365 through YM-468J pre-mill/corner machines and FM 45° bevel units. Nanxing is a larger Chinese group with a broader CNC catalogue. Neither replaces a Homag dealer if your corporate spec names Homag; both are the usual alternative when the spec names stations instead of a brand.

A practical buying test

  1. Write the stations you need (pre-mill? corner? PUR? boring? 45°?).
  2. Ask each vendor for that station list, not a “similar model”.
  3. Price installation, knives and a glue pot heater — not only FOB.
  4. Confirm who answers WhatsApp at 2 a.m. when the scraper lines a kitchen run.

Searches for “edge banding machine holzher” are often comparison shopping. If you need a Holz-Her-style glue system specifically, say so on the quote form; do not assume every Chinese machine is a nozzle machine.
