edgebander glue missing leading trailing ends
Why Is Edgebander Glue Missing at Leading or Trailing Ends?
2026-03-10
Glue missing at the first or last centimetres is a timing and wet-out problem: the glue roller is dry, late, or spinning too slow for the feed. Check pot level and temperature, roller doctoring, and whether feed was jumped to a higher m/min step without giving the pot time to recover. It is rarely “the brand of machine”.
Leading edge (start)
- Glue roller not yet wet after a pause. Jog glue before the first production panel.
- Panel hits the roller before glue is applied (sensor / encoder offset).
- Cold EVA at the surface after a lunch break.
Trailing edge (end)
- Pot running empty so the last 200 mm starves.
- Feed faster than the pump/roller can film (published YM steps are 15 / 18 / 23 m/min — drop one step to test).
- End-cut happening on a dry tape because glue stopped early.
Glue type matters
PUR that has started to cure in a neglected pot will skip like dry EVA. Dual-pot machines (YM-465D / YM-468JD) still need each pot at the right temperature. Do not mix leftover PUR with EVA.
If the middle of the edge is fine and only the ends fail, it is almost never the scraper. See also drifting tape and the repair guide.
